(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 56: Italian Prelude

In a few days I’m leaving on a jet plane, heading with my extended family to Italy for an extended vacation, which means Consuming The Tangible is going to take a bit of break until I return. It’s my first time to Europe and I want to try and experience it as openly as I can and not worry having content here. So the plan is to front load the next few playlists (I might get one more review in for Monday) and back to our regularly scheduled programming in a few weeks. No themes, but maybe I’ll throw some Italian bands in here and there…

(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 40: Lamenting Loss Of All Types

In the same week one of my favorite modern bands loses a founding member via “mutual decision” and one of my favorite classic bands loses a founding member recently reunited to the inevitable end. A jazz great leaves us, and sans link I simultaneously began realizing my all encompassing love for one of my favorite artists was beginning to dwindle because there’s only so much you can learn about your idols (I hate that word) before it all turns sour. But hey, that’s only the first four tracks of this week’s playlist – the second half is dedicated to the rock and prog that came in this week from all corners of the Earth.

(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 39: The One With W.A.S.P. and Auriferous Flame

Who would have thought out of all the music out there, it would be that idiot Trumper Blackie Lawless who would catch my attention and help distract me from what increasingly feels like an oncoming global storm? In related news, W.A.S.P. were kind of amazing, huh? I know everyone gives love to the debut, but I’m really drawn to The Headless Children and The Crimson Idol. This week’s playlist has some of that, some newer metal that came in the post, and a bunch of stuff in between. Have at it below the jump.

(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 2: What’s Old Is New

Happy Saturday! We’re back with another round of (Un)Focused Definition, a weekly series where I put together a playlist of tunes around a theme of my choosing. This time around we’re checking out older bands that were recent discoveries. As much as I try to keep up with newer music, I find myself constantly being drawn to the past, to older, analog sounds that spread over a wide space of genres. There are some loose groupings below, so let’s cut the chatter, grab a cup of hot coffee, and get to it, shall we?

banco - io sono nato libero

Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso: Io sono nato libero (1973)

I was originally going to write about about failure, about how 2022 basically ground me to dust and left me lost…a failure inside, weak in body and spirit, and sick. By giving myself writing goals and objectives and deadlines I turned this outlet, a channel for my passions and joy into just another job, and I don’t need that…don’t want that. It’s just one more thing that puts me further in the dark.

There. That’s the post. Now let’s just listen to an album and record some thoughts about it. And try it again the next day, and the day after that. I’d been meaning to get to the loads of Italian prog I had purchased over the last few months… my post on Arti + Mestieri was just the start of it. So why not kick off 2023 with an album celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the third release from Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, the complex bag of tricks known as Io sono nato libero.
