(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 44: Back On The New (To Me) Beat

This time next week I’ll be on a plane to an island where I will do nothing but lay on the beach with a book, eat, and repeat. It’s all that’s on my mind (other than actively trying to ignore work which is of course the exactly opposite of actually not thinking about work), so a quick playlist of the new music that’s come through the door in the past week. I really have a problem, but it ain’t the worst one to have right now, you know? So I’ll count myself very lucky and just get on to the tunes.

(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 30: Best of 2024: Metal Honorable Mentions

Last playlist of the year is all metal. On Thursday I released my Nine Circles Honorable Mentions, and it’s a beast: 25 albums that moved and rocked me in some way. So similar to last week’s (Un)Focused Definition this is going to focus on those albums, with the final, “official” best of metal list coming in the first year of January, and then my “all-in” playlist accompanying the year-end round up post here, sometime in mid-January. I want to say I’m looking forward to getting back to older albums again, but the truth is there were so many great records released this year I’m having a blast going back and revisiting them all. So grab your denim vest, don your spikes, and let’s get heavy for round #2 of great 2024 metal.

(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 21: What A Week…

…And I mean that in the best way. Not only did we finally get back to writing about music here now that the Hooptober Horror Marathon is over, it was a fantastic week both for new releases and for – of course – a massive glut of incoming vinyl and CDs that I want to cover over the next few weeks…at least until the next batch comes in and dries me further and further down the spiral of being behind. A great problem to have, if you ask me.

So the focus this week is going to be on the music that excited me on Friday. Genre-wise it’s a mixed bag, so prepare for some head swivels (I put the real heavy stuff at the end) and let’s get back into it, proper style this time.
