Dwellers: Corrupt Translation Machine (2025)

There was a moment during the opening of Corrupt Translation Machine, the third full-length from Salt Lake City’s Dwellers where, returning from a moment of distraction, I could have sworn I was listening to an Alice in Chains song. That’s a huge compliment, because outside of the actual AiC (themselves evolving past their ’90s roots) I can’t think of anyone else embodying this blend of psychedelic doom, grunge, and Americana folk and blues so cohesively. A real surprise of a discovery, but no surprise to have found them on Small Stone Records, fast becoming one of my favorite and most dependable labels for heavy, progressive, and psychedelic rock albums. Add this one to an already impressive list of great releases.

(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 62: What’s New?

Small steps. Repeated Deep Purple spins morphed into repeated Uriah Heep spins (the new stuff feels like a similar flavor to new DP), and rather than bear down and get another review out this week, I enjoyed taking bit of air and just listening to some of the new stuff that came in the house. I guess technically there is a fourth review, so if you dig stoner metal you can check out my review of the new Borracho over at Nine Circles. (Un)Focused Definition Ep. 50: Walk a Mile In My Shoes

Fifty of these. Feels like a milestone. But we’re just going to keep on keeping’ on, so to speak, and mark different milestones. In fact I have an idea for episode 52 already. Last night I got home late after seeing an incredible show that I’m going to write about here, so we’ll keep that under wraps for now and do another quick hit list of new albums I’m digging that came out recently as well as a few finds that made their way into my collection. And we’re even diving back into older rituals like ending with a Zappa track. Let’s go.
