I get it…I’ve always been against scoring or ratings in reviews – it’s too easy to simply assign a number and let it do the talking, and everyone and their brother has a different interpretation of what a particular score designates: just ask anyone who uses Letterboxd to explain their logic for the site’s 5-star ratings system, which can also accommodate half stars.

And this is NOT a review site…despite it being 97% reviews. The point has always been to use the reviews to understand more about myself, so ranking don’t matter.

And yet. The feedback rolls in. “I can’t tell if you like the album or not.” Where are the ratings?” Can you use some kind of rating so I don’t have to read your dumb words?”

Sure, let’s do it.

This is how the scoring works: I created a small html app that randomly assigns two characters to be in ratio to each other. I have no idea what will generate, the program has hundreds of letters, numbers, symbols and emojis to choose from. Then, the app will randomly generate two words: one adverb ending in “ly” and one adjective.

I have no idea what words will come out (except I explicitly ruled out explicit language), but whatever comes out, that’s the score.

You’re welcome.
