Just when I was getting back into the swing of writing here, I’m gone for a month and a half. What happened? Was this just another blow-off? That’s something I’ve been struggling with: this site mainly focuses on music, but that’s not the only media – tangible or otherwise – I consume on a regular basis. So while I haven’t been here writing up the latest vinyl and cassette (yeah, I know…) purchases, I’ve been extremely busy working on film reviews.
Horror film reviews, to be precise.
Every year over on Letterboxd a fine gentleman by the name of Cinemonster hosts a movie marathon called Hooptober, named after Tobe Hooper, director of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, among other classics. The rules are deceptively simple: watch and review 31 movies by October 31st. The trick, however, is that you also have to satisfy a number of rules and criteria that the films must fit into. This was the 10th year of the marathon, and I’m proud to state I’ve participated and completed the marathon each year.

This year was no different, and so between September 15th and October 31st (the official timeframe for the marathon) I did indeed watch and log/review 31 horror films. You can find them all, along with a lot of other film reviews over at Cinema Dual, I site I run with my friend Jon. It’s the sister site to the monthly podcast I co-host with him, where we chat about a couple of films around a theme of our choosing. So if you’re looking for more writing by me, of you want to hear me wax rhapsodically around movies, I would be happy if you checked that site out.
In the meantime, now that the marathon is over, I’m back, and already working on the next thing over here.
Thanks for your patience.
