(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 52: A Very Good Year

Old vintage cassette tape with tangled tape on a dark background

A simple premise. This is the fifty second playlist for Consuming the Tangible. In four days I turn 52 years old. Why not make a playlist of tracks that came out 52 years ago? That’s it. That’s the theme of the playlist.

  • Elton John – “Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding”
  • David Bowie – “Cracked Actor”
  • Pink Floyd – “On The Run”
  • Funkadelic – “Cosmic Slop”
  • Iggy and the Stooges – “Gimme Danger (Bowie Mix)”
  • Todd Rundgren – “Rock & Roll Pussy”
  • Norman Connors – “Laughter”
  • The Rolling Stones – “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)”
  • The Pink Fairies – “I Wish I Was A Girl”
  • Genesis – “The Cinema Show”
  • Frank Zappa – “Montana”

I thought there’s be a little more commentary this week, but really all you need to know is these are for the most part either songs I grew up with that I loved, or bands I came to love later in life. Of the new discoveries I guess the latest here is Norman Connors – I grabbed a CD compilation of his albums Dance of Magic and Dark of Light, and am still digging into them but I like what I’m hearing so far.

Other than that, I guess this leans a little heavy on the lengthier tracks, but “The Cinema Show” is my favorite cut off of Selling England By The Pound by Genesis, and Christ if the combo of “Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” isn’t one of the best Elton John tracks ever, let alone opening tracks. I can’t remember when or how I got turned on to The Pink Fairies – they’re one of those hard classic rock bands that had one fantastic album before fading into the background, so if this playlist does anything, I hope it gets you to check out Kings Of Oblivion, a killer rock album.

Be safe, be good to each other. See you next week.
