In a few days I’m leaving on a jet plane, heading with my extended family to Italy for an extended vacation, which means Consuming The Tangible is going to take a bit of break until I return. It’s my first time to Europe and I want to try and experience it as openly as I can and not worry having content here. So the plan is to front load the next few playlists (I might get one more review in for Monday) and back to our regularly scheduled programming in a few weeks. No themes, but maybe I’ll throw some Italian bands in here and there…
- Hedvig Mollestad Trio – “All Flights Cancelled”
- Osees – “Fight Simulator”
- Alcest – “Les voyages de l’âme”
- Sex Pistols – “Holidays in the Sun”
- Sprints – “Descartes
I started thinking about songs with titles that tied into different aspects of the vacation and also spoke to some of my recent listening, like Turnstile’s blow-up album Glow On and the third Alcest album which I just got on vinyl. Then I realized the new single from my beloved Osees was “Fight” and not in fact “Flight” Simulator, and I gave up. Still, that new single from Sprints is fantastic, and does a lot of what I love about the debut from Lambrini Girls.
- Supersister – “Judy Goes On Holiday”
- Uncomfortable Police – “Pentagram Lamb”
- Morphine – “Cure For Pain (Live at St. Andrew’s Hall, 3/7/94)”
- Alan Sparhawk with Trampled By Turtles – “Heaven”
- Banco del Mutuo Soccorso – “Slogan”
- The Velvet Underground – “Pale Blue Eyes”
A combination of new vinyl purchases (Supersister, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso and Velvet Underground) along with recent releases I’ve been digging but haven’t decided on. The Morphine live bootleg is fantastic, and a probable purchase. Uncomfortable Police is the latest musical project from Teen-beat Records founder Mark Robinson, who I enjoy in pretty much all his incarnations – this being no exception. Finally, with recent events I’m being drawn more and more to the latest endeavor from Alan Sparhawk, who knows a thing or two about loss.
Be safe, be good to each other. See you next week.
