(Un)Focused Definition Ep. 61: Crawling Back

I’m starting to feel a little more solid. Maybe that’s the effect of two weeks on this medication, or the fact I’ve gotten at least seven hours of sleep the past two nights, or that I took a day off work. Probably a combination of all the above, plus a generous dose of Deep Purple. I have no idea why, but they’ve been a salve these past few weeks when it was getting harder and harder to concentrate on anything. I promise the playlist has other stuff besides them, though.

If anything, the majority of the playlist is loaded with a lot of female singer/songwriters. I’ve really been enjoying the new Cleo Reed album, and Annahstasia I thought was a new discovery, only to find I picked up her EP back in 2023. I haven’t really listened to Deerhoof since 2007’s Friend Opportunity, so I have some catching up to do. The heavy comes courtesy of the excellent new album from The Dirty Nil, and yeah, there’s a little hip-hop after I found out about and started digging into the discography of Open Mike Eagle, who captures the weird musical eclecticism I enjoy in the genre.

And yeah, we end with some killer live Deep Purple from the Mk. III era.

A final quick note. Yeah, we’re dropping the Spotify playlist. I’m in the process of cancelling the account, which I kept for my son to use as well as the playlist. Not sure how many folks use Apple Music, but we’re continue on from there and I’ll see if I can transfer the previous playlists over. And since I need a business account to actually embed it, I’ll just use a link for now:
