I was really hoping to get more reviews out this week, but the emptiness of the house was really conducive to just…wandering around, eating honey mustard pretzels and listening to music while doomscrolling. On the plus side, yesterday was Bandcamp Friday and I did my level-headed best to support a bunch of bands – mostly digitally: I’m reluctant to do any overseas vinyl or CD purchases until this whole tariff thing gets sorted. So this week is a compilation of the music I picked up – mostly new discoveries although there were a couple “I’ve been meaning to pick this up for years” albums as well. Let’s dig in.
- Kaliyuga Express – “The Chariot”
- The Olivia Tremor Control – “Hideaway”
- Endless Boogie – “The Savagist”
- The Twenty Committee – “Her Voice”
- Sun Dial – “Messages From The Mothership”
- Wippy Bonstack – “Wishtank”
- King Buffalo – “Too Little Too Late”
Super heavy on the psychedelic/stoner rock this week – Emu was a random discovery using Bandcamp’s tag/genre search and might be my favorite discovery of the bunch..I was reminded that I hadn’t checked out Endless Boogie since their 2007 debut, so thanks Erik for putting them back on my radar…both the King Buffalo and Olivia Tremor Control were bands I had in my wishlist forever, so was happy to pull the trigger and give them a little more direct support.
Same with The Twenty Committee, whose 2023 album The Cycle Undone was one of my favorite progressive rock albums of 2023. The debut was a decade earlier, but has all of the richness I wanted from Geoffrey Langley…I had no idea who Sun Dial, Kaliyuga Express, or Wippy Bonstack were, but cursory listens yields fun results, so here they are.
Be safe, be good to each other. See you next week.
